It's never been good to have to enter a movie with a pair of cardboard glasses in hand. Sadly, Spy Kids 3-D continues that trend. With a 2-D plot about retired secret agent Daryl Sabara going into a video game to save his big sister (Alexa Vega), writer-director Robert Rodriguez's half-baked Tron redo is more glitch than substance. Sabara is occasionally joined by his grandfather (Ricardo Montalban), as he continues through the game's various levels, and jumps on, punches and pushes things, so that they'll do that no-so-cool 3-D trick. Sylvester "Yo, where's my career?!" Stallone hams it up for all he's worth as the bad guy, but this movie sorely lacks the loose, loopy sensibility of the first two films in the trilogy. And worse yet, since Sabara mainly goes it alone, the whole "The family that spies together, stays together" sentiment has been deleted. Sad to say, Game Over has no game.
