Dial "M" for maniac when PR hustler Colin Farrell risks instant death if he hangs up the receiver in a claustrophobic midtown Manhattan phone booth. Why is he on hold? Because someone has gone vigilante sniper and is drawing a bead on him nearby. The situation gets increasingly tense when an innocent is killed and the police finger Farrell for the murder. The disembodied voice (who you'll recognize as 24's Kiefer Sutherland) pushes all of Farrell's buttons about his questionable lifestyle, sucking his confident swagger dry. It's surreal, at times totally far-fetched, but as a weird Twilight Zone-y tale, this short, taut trip keeps you hanging on. And Farrell proves he has got the grit to keep us hanging on too, as most of the movie rides on his tight performance. A good call.
