Think of it as Robots Gone Wild. Very loosely based on the novel by Isaac Asimov, this pitch-perfect sci-fi flick finds Will Smith playing a detective investigating a murder--with the titular appliance as the prime suspect. Things, of course, are never that cut-and-dried, especially where paranoid technophobe Smith is concerned. While this may sound like a familiar story, director Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City) does not let it play out in a familiar way, adding amazing special effects, scary 'bots, just enough smart-assed Big Willie jokes and a couple of twists. Oh, and Smith gets totally naked, so there's something for the ladies as well. As far as popcorn summer flicks go, this one's error-free.
