Behold Spiderman 2 aka The Amazing Spiderman; the anxiously awaited sequel to be released in 2004. Universal has all the mechanisms in place to turn Spider-Man into the next big franchise. Director Sam Raimi and stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst have all signed on to continue their work, so you can expect webbed wizardry in theaters for the next several years. Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon (Wonder Boys) has signed a deal to pen a version of the script. A scooper says Jake Gyllenhaal will make a brief appearance as Kletus Kasady in this sequel, as a set-up for a larger role alongside Venom in Spider-Man 3. According to the New York Post, actors are already angling for parts in the inevitable third chapter. Vin Diesel and The Rock are eyeing the part of Venom, according to Britain's Channel 1, while neither Christian Bale nor Sam Rockwell, both of whom expressed interest, will be playing the villain Carnage.
