Brace yourself. Disney has found a sense of humor, and it's a shock to the sugarcoated system.

But blink, and you could miss it.

``Disney's Teacher's Pet'' is a clever animated comedy that twists Disney's magical mantra ``When You Wish Upon a Star'' and shows the not-so-rosy consequences of dreams that come true.

Spot (Nathan Lane), the crafty canine from the Saturday morning cartoon ``Teacher's Pet,'' makes his big-screen debut in this epic musical tale that follows his dreams of becoming a human boy. However, his 8-year-old owner, Leonard (Shaun Fleming), would prefer Spot just learn how to play fetch.

Spot satiates his desire by dressing up as Scott Leadready II, the teacher's pet of Leonard's fourth-grade class. The teacher, Mrs. Helperman (Debra Jo Rupp of ``That '70s Show''), is also Leonard's mom but is oblivious to the pup's ploy.

The answer to Spot's aspirations presents itself when mad scientist Dr. Ivan Krank (Kelsey Grammer) appears on ``The Barry Anger Show'' (a savvy spin on the ``Jerry Springer'' phenomenon).

Krank claims he can change animals into humans. So Spot makes the pilgrimage to the madman's dilapidated laboratory in a Florida swamp.

The romp reveals the film's comic success with the introduction of Krank's ``children,'' who are actually the botched results of his morphing experiment: Dennis (Paul Reubens), a boy/alligator hybrid, and Adele (Megan Mullally of ``Will & Grace''), a girl/mosquito.

Krank is one of the film's best characters. He resembles a sick mix of Dr. Frank-N-Furter of ``The Rocky Horror Picture Show'' and the Brain of ``Pinky and the Brain'' fame.

Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, whose writing credits include the '80s sitcom ``Cheers,'' penned the screenplay. Nothing in the Magic Kingdom is sacred.

Disney icons such as Pinocchio, Mickey Mouse and the fairy godmother are put through the satirical wringer.

As Spot laments time and again, ``You're not going to sing now, are you?''
