Movie Reviews: Ghost Rider

Based on the Marvel comic book, Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) makes good on his deal with the devil by serving as a Ghost Rider, a demonic force who fights escapees from Hell whenever the devil asks. Eva Mendes plays Blaze's requisite love interest.

Big questions: Remember when Nicolas Cage was a respected actor? Is this better or more fun than it looks?

Skip it: Terrible special effects, worse acting and a nonsensical plot are not the ingredients of a solid comic book flick. If Cage made a deal with the devil to never make a good movie ever again, "Ghost Rider" completes his transition from A-list star to industry punchline.

Catch it: If you're trying to quit drinking. Blaze's cocktail of choice is a martini glass filled with jelly beans. Guaranteed to leave you hangover-free.

Bottom line: With a guitar-heavy soundtrack, bursts of fire and a lot of motorcycle action, "Ghost Rider" has moments of mindless fun for fans of Evel Knievel or Lynyrd Skynyrd. Otherwise, it's just a stupid, poorly made movie meant to put a PBR in your hand and hair on your back.

Bonus: You can wish your second job was as easy as Blaze's, who's only assigned one task by the devil in 20 years. Or wonder why the devil needs help at all. Or why former buzzworthy actor Wes Bentley ("American Beauty") was willing to co-star as Blaze's biggest supernatural foe. Or why the filmmakers don't know that when Blaze tries to jump a football field from goal post to goal post, it's actually 360 feet, not 300. Shall we continue?
