Movie Reviews: Full Of It

  • This high-concept, low-rent teen flick is an utterly negligible and charm-deprived fantasy comedy that should have gone straight to DVD, if not straight onto the cutting room floor....." -- Reel.com ( Read Review )
  • There have been worse ideas for teen comedies, but few have been as badly executed as this one....." -- Detroit Free Press ( Read Review )

In "Full of It," a nerdy high school senior discovers that the lies he has been telling to make himself appear cool have all become reality.

Now every shot he makes on the basketball court really does go through the hoop. He really does drive a Porsche. Both his sexy English teacher and the hottest girl in the school can't wait to keep him after class.

There have been worse ideas for teen comedies, but few have been as badly executed as this one.

Star Ryan Pinkston fails to elicit laughs or sympathy as transfer student Sam, who has the misfortune of looking 12 and excelling in math. His parents (John Carroll Lynch and Cynthia Stevenson) not only cut his hair into a helmet but also drop him off at school with a daily hug and kiss.

Though the cynical Annie (Kate Mara) immediately befriends him, Sam throws her over to get next to the popular kids. Before he realizes his mistake, he loses her and his formerly loving mom and dad.

"Full of It" was directed by Christian Charles, who made the Jerry Seinfeld documentary "Comedian." There is no indication here that he or screenwriters Jon Lucas and Scott Moore ever went to a high school, let alone graduated from one.

Who is this trash aimed at? It's too juvenile for most teenagers, though the PG-13 movie also includes a running gag about an endowment of Sam's that has nothing to do with school funding.
