MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon is slipping into a new role in real life, that of voluntary group CRY's ambassador for chidren for 2003.


Raveena has become the first Bollywood personality to be so honoured by CRY (Child Relief & You), a non-profit child welfare group.


Shooting round-the-clock for her production Stumped, Raveena heard the news while recording a song for the film.


"I was deeply moved. I don't think anyone from my fraternity has been thus honoured. And I feel I'm privileged," the actress said.


"I've always felt celebrities are very fortunate people. They have a voice that's heard by the people. And they should put that voice to constructive use. No point in endorsing only consumer goods. One must use one's celebrity to further social causes. Working for children has always been a special pleasure for me."


Incidentally, Raveena had adopted two girls some years ago and says being a foster-mother delights her.


Raveena has been working for CRY for some years now.


"I've been taking time off for their causes without the press being informed about it. Now they probably wanted to make it official.


"I'm not very comfortable with the idea of advertising my work with CRY. I do it because I feel like it. I'm not doing anyone a favour," said the actress.


On January 2, Raveena will play a charity tennis match for CRY in Chennai.


"I've cancelled my shooting on that day to accommodate the event. I don't mind being used for good causes at all. I'd rather be spreading goodwill than wasting my time over inconsequential matters."
