Christopher Reeve, the actor who played Superman in four Hollywood films, will make a guest appearance on the WB Network's Smallville TV series during the February sweeps period. Reeve, who was paralysed in a horseback riding accident in 1995, is apparently a fan of the show.
He will play a brilliant scientist who reveals to young Clark Kent (Reeve lookalike Tom Welling) his destiny as a superhero, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. Entertainment confirmed Tuesday.
Although the series is shot in Vancouver, the Reeve scenes will be filmed in New York City on Jan. 17. And it may not be the only appearance for his character.
"I would love to have him back," Al Gough, co-creator and executive producer, told The Hollywood Reporter. "It would be completely up to him."
As part of the deal, the WB will close the episode with a public service announcement on behalf of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation.
Reeve became a quadriplegic as a result of a spinal cord injury suffered in the riding accident in Virginia. He has continued to do some acting - in a TV remake of Rear Window -- and has directed commercials and the HBO TV movie In the Gloaming.
