It is Aishwarya Rai, who will play the role of an Indian spy girl in Roland Joffe’s epic, The Invaders, opposite Vivek Oberoi. Oberoi plays the role of a brave Indian unsung soldier called Udaji in the film. Rai and Oberoi are also acting together in Sameer Karnik’s Kyon? Ho Gaya Na? Sources close to Rai confirmed that the actress had been approached for the role and she was keen to do the film, though she has still not signed on the dotted line. It is learnt that Rai is trying to adjust her dates so that she could shoot in November 2003 for The Invaders. Ash is shooting till October for Gurinder Chadha’s Bride and Prejudice in the UK and USA. Rai is also contemplating the offer from Sanjay Leela Bhansali to play the lead role in his next project Bajirao Mastani, based on the mistress of the Peshwa Bajirao II. Another offer that she is looking at to play is an interesting cameo of an Indian girl in Ketan Mehta’s film The Rising opposite Aamir Khan. An English actress would be playing the main lead opposite Khan in The Rising. Meanwhile The Invaders, a $40 million project, produced by Ajey Jhankar’s Neelmudra Entertainment goes on the floors with a 100-day schedule spread over 20 weeks from September onwards.
