JOHANNESBURG: Leading personalities from the Indian film industry including Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Mohanlal, A R Rahman and Lara Dutta are expected to be part of the fourth annual presentation of the International Indian Film Academy Awards function here on May 17.
The three-day IIFA weekend will commence on May 15 and be hosted at various venues within Johannesburg, culminating with the awards, 2003.
World premiers of Lara Dutta-Abhishek Bachchan starrer Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost and Armaan starring Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Preity Zinta will be showcased during the weekend.
Though the main awards will be announced later, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas has bagged most of the awards for technical excellence, including choreography, sound recording, cinematography, art direction and sound recording, IIFA announced at a star-studded press conference on Wednesday.
Mahesh Bhatt's Raaz got the award for screenplay, Ram Gopal Verma's Company for editing and action and Mahesh Manjrekar's Kaante for special effects while A R Rahman won the Background score award for Saathiya.
Launched three years ago at the Millennium Dome, London, the presentation ceremony provides a platform for interaction with the global media and attracts stalwarts of both Indian and international cinema.
