'Charlie's Angels' Don't Care About Box Office

Hollywood actresses Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu said on Tuesday they didn't care how much their film "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" makes at the box office or whether it matches the success of its predecessor.
"It doesn't mean anything to us," Diaz said in an interview with journalists in Berlin ahead of the German premiere of the Columbia Pictures film. "I'm not interested in breaking records."
Although it went straight to number one in the U.S. box office charts in its debut weekend, taking $38 million, the film starring Drew Barrymore, Diaz and Liu as crime-fighters in a story as skimpy as their outfits failed to match the performance of its 2000 predecessor "Charlie's Angels."
The original film earned $40 million in its opening weekend in November 2000 -- a traditionally slow month compared to the busy summer season.
"Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" ended a strong streak for number one debut films in the United States. The last six movies to open at No. 1 all did so by selling more than $50 million worth of tickets.
"If the film were to earn just one dollar it wouldn't matter to us," said Liu. "I didn't make this film for the money."
Diaz, Liu and Barrymore, who held hands during part of the interview, all nodded in agreement each time one of them said the money didn't matter.
"It was a lot of fun working together with my friends," Barrymore said.
"Charlie's Angels" generated $125 million at the U.S. box office.
