MUMBAI: Actor Vivek Oberoi was discharged from hospital on Monday after surgery for multiple fractures to his left leg injured during the filming of a movie stunt in Kolkata earlier this month.
"I am happy I am out of the hospital. I feel better. I will be careful with stunt sequences henceforth," the actor told reporters as he taken out of the hospital in a wheelchair by his father, actor Suresh Oberoi, his mother and sister.
"The stitches on his leg were removed this morning, and we decided to bring him home," Suresh Oberoi said. "His X-ray is normal too. Doctors have advised complete rest for six weeks. His left leg has been put in a special cast containing air cushions."
Oberoi's co-star, Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai, had taken time off from filming Gurinder Chadda's Bride and Prejudice in London to visit the actor at the Hinduja Hospital during the weekend.
Rai herself suffered a leg fracture in April, also in an accident on a movie set, and Oberoi had been at her hospital bedside then.
"It is a very nice gesture from her," said Suresh Oberoi. "I was touched that she came all the way from London to see Vivek." In his accident, Vivek Oberoi had fallen while filming a high-speed motorcycle chase scene for an as-yet untitled movie directed by Mani Ratnam.
Suresh Oberoi said his son's injury would not cost huge losses to any film productions. "Luckily, Vivek does one film at a time. So, he was shooting only for Mani Ratnam's film in Calcutta, which is almost complete."
Established stars in Bollywood, which produces about 800 films annually, can appear in six or seven movies a year. Vivek Oberoi shot into Bollywood limelight with his portrayal of an Indian gangster in Ram Gopal Varma's Company in 2001.
