The curiosity around Koi Mil Gaya is reaching a crescendo. And the effect is showing on Roshan junior’s face, with Hrithik looking like a bundle of nerves these days.
Shaky and spaced out -– that’s what India’s first overnight superstar seemed like at a film promotion in New Delhi. Much has changed ever since Hrithik became an unprecedented phenomenon three years ago. And it is not just the actor’s fortunes, it’s his temperament also.
It was not the level-headed superstar we have known all along, but an unsure wannabe superstar who addressed the press. Gone were the equanimity and the ease Hrithik had during television talk shows, when he rode high on the success of Kaho Na Pyar Hai. Before the release of Koi Mil Gaya, cracks in his composure were showing.
What has not changed, however, is that Hrithik remains very much his papa’s boy, with Roshan Senior firmly in command. "My dad has always been my inspiration. He’s my motivation. He is like a reality check for me," the son acknowledges his dad’s role.
The film’s heroine, Preity Zinta, was amiss at the promotion, leading several to conclude the senior Roshan wanted to keep his son in the spotlight. Amisha Patel had similarly skipped press dos during the promotional rounds of Kaho Na Pyar Hai. Roshan senior dismissed the notion, saying Zinta was busy shooting for a Karan Johar film in New York.
