David Hyde Pierce said the whole cast is "heartbroken" that "Frasier" is ending in May.
Still, Pierce -- who plays Dr. Frasier Crane's (Kelsey Grammer) uptight brother, Niles, on the show -- said it a good time to end the show, while people still care so much about it.
"It would be really pathetic to have gone on so long that we're all sick of each other and sick of the show and sick of the characters and sick of the dog," Pierce said.
So, the tears he and his cast-mates will cry at the end of the show's run "will be happy tears," Pierce added.
NBC and the cast confirmed Monday that "Frasier" will wrap up in May at the end of its 11th season.
The network said the mounting costs of "Frasier" led to the decision not to go on with the show. NBC said they pay Paramount $5.2 million an episode for the right to air the series.
"Frasier" also stars John Mahoney, Peri Gilpin and Jane Leeves.
