Carrie Underwood is lacing up the next stage of her career.
The season four American Idol winner has signed on as the face of Skechers, going where the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera have gone before.
"Being a part of Skechers is exciting. It is such a hip company with a great attitude and image," Underwood said in a statement. "I've been wearing Skechers for years, so for me this is a really great project. I can proudly endorse Skechers--and happily add more pairs to my closet!"
The country crooner will represent the shoe company through December 2006 in a campaign expected to launch this fall.
"We are extremely excited to have Carrie represent Skechers in our marketing campaigns, and to be affiliated with such a dynamic performer. Beautiful and talented, she is a superstar, yet she has a refreshing style and very unaffected charm," Michael Greenberg, president of Skechers, said in a statement.
"She is the kind of star young women can relate to--as if they know her. Like our previous campaigns with celebrities, this campaign will be an incredible union of Skechers' attitude and Carrie's natural image and style.
It will be a big fall for Underwood, who will be on the road with the other American Idol finalists on the American Idols Live! Tour 2005 and is expected to to release her debut album in November on 19 Recordings/Arista.
Underwood has already broken Billboard chart history by becoming the first country artist to debut atop the Hot 100 Chart with "Inside Your Heaven."
Meanwhile, the producers of American Idol are making it easier for wannabe contestants to get a shot at stardom.
Though more than 100,000 aspiring vocalists auditioned for American Idol last season, Idol execs are betting that not everyone was able to make the trip.
FremantleMedia has teamed with media company Glowcast Ventures to launch the Idol Auditions Tour, which will extend the audition process to 50 cities across the nation in local malls and other venues.
The first 500 people to show up at the audition site who meet the criteria for an American Idol contestant will earn the chance to perform in front of a live audience to determine if they have what it takes to move on to the primary audition sites for the show.
The winners of the Idol Auditions Tour will then move on to the stadium auditions in their region where they'll be spared the process of camping out for days in order to be critiqued Randy, Paula and Simon and will instead be fast-tracked through the process.
Organizers of the Auditions Tour estimate that an additional 20,000 hopefuls will get the shot to audition, thanks to the proximity of the tryouts.
"Historically we've been able to visit only six or seven cities each season," Fremantle exec Olivier Gers said in a statement. "The Idol Auditions Tour will reach more people, in more cities, than ever before, giving a lot more people the chance to live out their dreams."
The Idol Audition Tour is expected to launch in August 2006, in time for the show's sixth season.
"We came up with the idea for this tour when we learned that one contestant sold her wedding ring to make the trip to audition for American Idol. We realized that there were probably other contestants who couldn't afford to travel or take time off from work in order to try out for the show," Glowcast CEO Ken Seiff stated.
"The newest American Idol, Carrie Underwood, had to travel over 7 hours to make the trip. We're excited to bring the auditions to the local level because it ensures that the best Idol is found."
