British pop star Robbie Williams has entered the famed Guinness Book of World Records by selling more than 1.6 million tickets for his 2006 world tour in just one day, its editor said on Thursday.
The heartthrob singer takes the five-year-old record from US star Justin Timberlake's former group, NSync.
In 2000, the boy band sold one million tickets in one day for their No Strings Attached US tour, worth $40 million.
Tickets to Williams' tour valued at 80 million pounds sold out in hours on November 19.
The new global benchmark will appear in the 2007 edition of the Guinness book, editor Craig Glenday said, calling it "a proud day for British pop music".
Meanwhile, rumours abounded on Thursday that Williams' former boy band, Take That, whose hits included Could it be Magic and Relight My Fire, will reform without him after a 10-year absence from the charts.
A press call was announced for Friday at which the other four ex-members of the 90s heartthrob group—Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange—were said to be set to make a "very exciting announcement".
Barlow said last week that the band members had been offered one million pounds each to go back on tour.
Take That's split prompted scenes more akin to national mourning, with a special counselling help line being set up for devastated fans, most of them teenage girls.
Williams, however, has been the only band member to sustain a successful solo career.
