FORMER Miss Universe and Bollywood star Sushmita Sen will star alongside Richard Gere in a Hollywood film to be shot in Argentina, a newspaper said today.
Sen, who is among a small group of Indian actors with growing international recognition, had already signed up for the film, the Mumbai Mirror quoted her as saying.
"And yes, Richard Gere plays the male lead," Sen told the newspaper, adding that US-based filmmaker Sutapa Ghosh would direct the Miramax production called The Expat.
"I'm looking forward to working with Sutapa and Richard," Sen said.
Sen would portray an Indian immigrant in the film, the report said.
The newspaper did not say when shooting would begin or give a date for the film's release.
Meanwhile, Will Smith is tapping into the Asian market.
The star wanted to meet with Chinese officials to discuss breaking into that country, but tough censorship restrictions meant he ended up going to India.
Will visited Mumbai and now has a deal through his production company to produce two movies there, though he'll feature in neither of them.
The actor's move follows that of fellow leading man Hugh Jackman, who negotiated a deal with Twentieth Century Fox to make five films in his native Australia.
"Why sell something to ten people when you can sell it to ten million people," Will told The New York Times. "You have to have a global perspective."
The star is partnering in the endeavour with childhood friend James Lassiter.
The duo originally got into business together because the latter was the only person on their Philadelphia block to own a fax machine and Will was expecting a record company contract.
Lassiter became the rapper-turned-thesp road manager soon afterwards.
