17 year old Jordin Sparks was crowned the new American Idol on the hit Fox TV show last night, beating out fellow contestant Blake Lewis, 25 -- making her the youngest Idol winner ever. Lewis and Sparks performed the previous night, with Sparks singing Christina Aguilera's "Stronger" and Lewis belting out Jon Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name." Both singers also performed the custom-made ballad "This Is My Now," with the consensus being that the vocally strong Sparks outdelivered Lewis, whose style is marked by his beatboxing sound effects. The two-hour Wednesday night show, held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, included performances by Gwen Stefani, Bette Midler, Smokey Robinson, Tony Bennett, and former Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, among others.
